Scrub off the dead BEFORE you bed!

Scrub off the dead before you bed!

Why exfoliation is important before tanning

Exfoliating gets rid of the top layer of dead skin cells to provide an even tan. When you go into a bed with dry flaky skin, the rays bounce and can cause a “blotchy” tan. Not only will scrubbing help provide a  sexy , even glow, it will help keep your skin healthy…read on…

Importance of exfoliation:

As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means that the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the build-up of dead skin cells can result in excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne.

“Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy”. – from woman’s health

-Rids skin surface of dead cells so moisture has a chance to properly hydrate the skin

-Brings blood to the surface of the skin, carrying vital nutrients and oxygen, essential for the maintenance of healthy cells

Can I exfoliate with oily skin?

Exfoliation is especially helpful to those with oily skin. In addition to smoothing, improving skin tone and enhancing skin’s receptiveness of oil-controlling ingredients, exfoliation helps rid oily skin of dulling skin cells to help keep skin clear.

Why sugar and not salt?

There is nothing wrong with salt scrubs at all!! In fact they are every little bit as great as sugar. I prefer sugar because i find it less harsh than salt, which can tend to be sensitizing and drying at times Also, sugar is a humectant, meaning it cannot draw water out of the skin like salt can. Sugar contains glycolic acid and alpha hyd

hyroxy acids – so important with the exfoliation of our skin

When, where and how?

The most convenient time to use a Sugar Scrub is when you’re showering or bathing. After your initial rinse, and your skin is sufficiently wet, use a scoopful amount of the Sugar Scrub and message the scrub into your skin – arms, elbows, knees, face, heels etc. It is effective for all parts of the body. With only a small bit of pressure, your body will begin to feel the positive effects of the Sugar Scrub. After you rinse the scrub off your skin, notice there is no oily reside left behind. Run your hand along your newly soften skin; you will be amazed at how it feels. Some people like to follow up with a small amount of rich, organic body butter (which i recommend) to complete the experience. You can use Lyck scrubs everyday of you really wanted too, but twice a week will keep your skin healthy and glowing!

Lyck’s organic Sugar Scrubs

Lyck carries seven types of organic sugar scrubs!! All made with organic sugar and oils – no synthetics!

Maui Morning – a coffee based scrub made with organic coffee, dark organic chocolate and macadamia nut oil

Benefits:  macadamia nut oils contain catechins, which behave as free-radical scavengers and anti-oxidents. This oil also contains squalene, which can benefit chapped and cracked skin, help with cell regeneration and have some anti-bacterial properties. Macadamia is a delicious smelling oil, reminisant of the true nut. Also, The word is satisfying to say…macadamia, macadamia, macadamia…..

Coffee:   The main chemical in coffee is caffeine, a natural antioxidant. Antioxidants have many benefits, including cancer-fighting properties. Antioxidants also neutralize the effects of free radicals, which can damage the inner layer of skin. This damage is often reflected in age spots and wrinkles. When a coffee body scrub is applied, the skin absorbs this antioxidant and can help prevent premature aging. I am not beyond drinking coffee and then using the scrub to top up – that’s how much I like the smell, and i am not ashamed.

Chocolate is well known to have intense sensory properties. According to a New York Times article, just the smell of chocolate will activate pleasure-anticipation and food-reward neurons. Its absorption through the skin, coupled to smell activation, will increase endorphins. This, along with the caffeine and  from coffee will elevate the mood and improve how the person feels.

NOTE: obviously if you or anyone in your house has any allergies to nuts, i wouldn’t make this your go too scrub.

Vanilla coconut crème – vanilla & coconut

This scrub is really for the pure pleasure of the smells. I use a blend of 100% natural and organic flavor oils to give this scrub it’s rich, sweet flavor.

Benefits: will put a smile on your faceJ  ALSO – vanilla has been known for it’s aphrodisiac qualities, so please use this with caution!!

Blood orange – my favorite citrus!! Deep, sweet and bold

Bergamot – juicy Italian bergamot…mmmm…so refreshing

Pink pepper – spicy and revitalizing!!! Yes, real pink peppercorns are added!

Very uplifting and energizing!! Perfect for citrus lovers!

citrus scrubs have Vitamin C, which is an essential ingredient that helps protect skin from ultraviolet light and other environmental toxins. Vitamin C works to convert inactivated Vitamin E into an antioxidant.. It also plays a role in reducing wrinkle visibility by boosting the creation of collagen. Other benefits of regular Vitamin C application include creating melanin to reduce pigmentation and helping to reduce the appearance of scars.

Secret crush

Sweet and mellow – has added cranberry seeds for extra exfoliation and natural flavor oils of honey dew melon and tangerine essential oil!

Naughty girl

Chocolate, raspberry and hibiscus

Chocolate – benefits are above(maui morning) did i mention that it smells absolutely delicious??

Hibiscus -Whether derived from the flowers or seeds of this tropical plant, the extract has antioxidant and exfoliating powers. It is also used to complement hydrating, antiaging and oil-control actions

Iced amour

Peppermint – think refreshing and invigorating? You sure do!! Peppermint has always been used as an ingredient to freshen up. It is another one of my favorite ingredients as it is so enjoyable.

Lavender  – this ingredient has been studies and used for so many benefits.  it can be used to treat a number of skin problems such as acne, burns, dry skin, eczema, itchy skin, sunburn, seborrhea, and skin inflammation. It’s smell is calming and earthy – great for skin care and the emotional senses!

Lemon – another cheery and bright ingredient! Lemon peel contains citric and plant acids that work to cleanse, lighten and brighten the skin; remove dead skin; and stimulate new skin growth.

Naked is excellent with any skin sensitivities. I originally made this for my friend who’s husband can’t be near any scent at all. Because of this, she really never used any products because even the unscented ones seemed to contain scent. During my research i found there wasn’t much in the way of scrubs that came unscented. This to me was a great opportunity to delieve the benefits of a scrub to those who can’t have the scent.

Naked is also great for hands, feet and children. Yes, kids too!! Sometimes kids can get little bumps on their bodies called milla. This scrub is great for helping combat dry ,bumpy and flaky skin. Because there is no essential oils/or flavors, it’s perfect for sensitivitiesJ
